Nonsurgical carpal tunnel evaluation and management
What to do with your patients who have numb hands? Why not send them our way!We offer "one stop shopping" for those patients with upper extremity pain and numbness.
In one visit your patient may receive:
- a board-certified neuromuscular consultation
- an electro diagnostic test to confirm the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome
- an evaluation of the severity of the carpal tunnel syndrome
- a determination of whether there is axon loss (denervation)
- an evaluation for other entrapment neuropathies - i.e. ulnar neuropathy at the elbow
- a determination of whether there is an element of cervical nerve root compression contributing to the symptoms
- and an individualized treatment plan for your patient
Depending on the severity of your patient's symptoms and the severity of the EMG abnormalities, we can counsel your patient on the most appropriate treatment - whether that be:
- neural wrist bracing at night only
- wrist bracing in conjunction with ultrasound guided corticosteroid injection under the transverse carpal ligament
- or, if severe enough, direct referral to hand surgery for consideration of carpal tunnel release
